People Coming Every Day

People coming everyday seems to be an uncomplicated statement about the arrival of immigrants and refugees in Canada but its apparent simplicity raises many questions about the decisions, choices and specific experiences of people and groups in the process of coming to Canada.

History is more than the story of governments and regulations or the tales of military men and politicians. It is also about the efforts of humble people, women and men, with talent in search of opportunity. People need to eat, to find shelter, to get work, to start families and friendships and to create worlds of meaning in many different situations. Often, each person relies on the help of others: family, friends and fellow immigrants from the same heritage.

This thematic section of the Global Gathering Place will help frame some questions about the process of immigration.
